Empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live in and enrich their communities by donating to us at www.tinyurl.com/give2pvi during the Great Community Give.  Early giving starts Wednesday, April 3rd at 6:30 AM. The Great Community Give giving day event is Wednesday, April 17, 2023 from 6:30 AM to 8 PM. Let’s work together to reach our goal and get closer to our vision.

Shaping a More Inclusive World

Pleasant View was created to provide independent living opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). In March of 1971, we became one of the first community-based homes licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia. For the past 53 years, Pleasant View has been supporting individuals who have disabilities in living out their goals for meaningful work, relationships, and spiritual development.

It is our vision that all people will have the opportunity to live in and enrich their communities. To this end we are on a mission to raise $25,000, to help create accessible homes to expand community living options for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Individuals with IDD face limited residential options, sometimes forcing them to move away from family and friends. Your generosity during the Great Community Give will help change this narrative. Donations will help renovate and furnish Gehman House (pictured left) and contribute to our Activity & Enrichment Fund, opening doors to new opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Some homes have accessibility issues that are hard to define until it is lived in. After that, it is hard to make big changes. This home, named in honor of Linford Gehman, had three bedrooms with one having a private bathroom, and one hall bathroom. Due to staffing shortages during the pandemic this home was chosen for closure mostly because it had more features that limited accessibility. To expand living options, our current home renovation project is transforming Gehman House into a more accessible and welcoming space.

Your donations will reshape lives, providing essential accessibility features like:

  • a large open common area,
  • 2 bathrooms accessible to all members of the household, and
  • six single bedrooms.
