Pleasant View Inc. provides an array of Day Support Services to assist individuals in reaching his or her own vocational goals. These support services include Center-based support and Community Based support.
Center-Based Day Support is provided in two locations, one located in Broadway and another in Harrisonburg. Center-based support provides training in academic skills, sensory stimulation, community integration, computer training and internet guided access, healthy life style, safety, recreational,and daily living skills in classroom and community settings. Individuals are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities which increase or maintain physical abilities. Although these are center-based day supports, there are many outings and special guests who visit. (Broadway Day Program opened June 1979 and Harrisonburg Day Program opened July 1984)
Community-Based Day Support is provided through employment and volunteer options:
- Community Connections(started April 1994) is a community-based program which combines meaningful volunteer work with training in job, community integration, healthy life style, and social skills. We also emphasize socialization, communication, safety, problem solving, and accessing community resources.
- Supported Employment (started in 1998)options include Work Enclaves and Individual Support.
- Individual Support provides one-to-one support by a job coach to a worker in an employment position utnil support can be decreased gradually as the worker becomes more proficient.
- A Work Enclave provides support for multiple employees working together as a group at a job site.
